Three ink to Play Softball at Southern Arkansas

Magnolia, Ark. – Head Coach Jamie Madewell has announced that three more standout softball players have signed national letters-of-intent to play at Southern Arkansas University. The three are junior college transfers Samantha Hoelscher and Rebecca Forse, and high school senior Kara Turner.

Hoelscher is a 5-2 sophomore outfielder from Columbus, Texas, via Blinn (TX) Junior College. She was a First Team All-District and Tri-County selection for three years, and was named Most Valuable Player in 2003. In 2004, Hoelscher was the Gatorade Player of the Year. This past season she hit .283, with an on-base percentage of .349. Madewell said, “I look forward to the addition of Samantha. She is an all-around athlete with a
great approach at the plate, and can play outfield or infield.”

Forse is a 5-9 sophomore pitcher from Pasadena, Texas, also out of Blinn Junior College. She was a four-year All-District selection in high school. Forse had a 1.54 ERA, with 127 strikeouts this season at Blinn, leading them to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament.
“I look forward to seeing what Rebecca will do in our conference. She has been very successful at the junior college level, and has proven her ability to throw under pressure. I think her experience will help to be a dominating force in the GSC,” stated Madewell.

Turner is a 5-7 catcher from Troup High School in Troup, Texas, who played club ball with the Queen of Diamonds in Kilgore, Texas. She was a teammate with current Lady Mulerider Cheyenne Savony. Turner was named the district Catcher of the Year in both her junior and senior high seasons, and was also the Co-Most Valuable Player in her district. She was a four-year All-District selection, and was Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. Madewell said, “Kara will be a great fit for the SAU program…she is a hard worker with a great attitude. I expect her to come in and make an immediate impact at both the plate, and as a catcher.”
