[November 4, 2006] MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders finished 12th, and the Lady Muleriders 13th, at the NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships this weekend. The meets were held at Christian Brothers University on Saturday. As expected, Harding University swept both the men’s and women’s divisions by a comfortable margin. The Bisons scored 23 points in leading the men’s division. Florida Southern was second (60); West Florida third (110); Alabama-Huntsville placed fourth (134); and Tampa (174) rounded out the top five. West Georgia (273) and North Alabama (287) were 10th and 11th, respectively, in front of SAU, while Christian Brothers (296) and West Alabama (388) were right behind at 13th and 14th, respectively. Valdosta State (418) finished 16th in the 17-team field. HU placed five runners in the top 10. Julius Kosgei took the individual championship with a time of 31:07, while teammate Artek Kern (31:17) was second. Michael Padilla (31:23) of West Florida took third; Harding’s James Cheruiyot (31:35) was fourth; and Stephen Hill (31:35) of Christian Brothers was fifth. Nathan Hall led the Southern Arkansas contingent, finishing 31st with a time of 34:15 in the 109-man field. Elliot Isom (34:18) was close behind at 32nd; Keven Perez (35:18) placed 56th; Morgan Collier (36:27) was 79th, and Michael Wooten (37:35) finished 92nd to round out the Mulerider scoring. The Lady Bisons scored 37 points in taking the women’s division, placing their five scoring runners in the top 15. Tampa (88) was second; Florida Southern (132) third; Alabama-Huntsville (149) was fourth; and North Alabama (164) rounded out the top five. West Florida (211) was sixth, and West Georgia (293) came in just ahead of SAU at 12th. Valdosta State (427) placed 17th, and Arkansas Tech (461), Henderson State (530), Christian Brothers (569), and West Alabama (643) rounded out the 22-team field. Emry McKay of North Alabama won the women’s individual title in 21:38. Janee Jones (21:41) of Harding was second; Jael Koech (21:42) from Florida Southern was third; Angela Cobb (22:00) of Clayton State placed fourth; and Savita Chelimo (22:19) was fifth for Harding. Southern Arkansas was led by Kendall Mears (24:35) who finished 38th in the 142-woman field. Lindsay Musielak (24:55) was 44th; Marija Kolarevic (25:28) placed 62nd; Gaby Mendoza (26:00) was 82nd; and Michaela Krcova (26:08) was 84th to round out the Lady Mulerider scorers. Others running for SAU were Ashley Weeks (27:26) and Pamela Elmore (27:51) finishing 114th and 118th, respectively. #SAU# |
