DALLAS, Texas - Dallas Baptist University (3-3) picked up its second win this season against Southern Arkansas University (3-4) Wednesday, 65-58, at the Burg Center. The Patriots defeated the Muleriders, 72-67, during Thanksgiving weekend in Magnolia.

DBU went ahead by seven, 12-5, with 13:56 remaining in the opening half after Jonathan Teat nailed a jumper. SAU rallied and managed to tie the game at 12-12 after scoring seven unanswered points. Southern Arkansas finally took its first lead of the game at 22-20 when Cory Green hit two of three free throws at the 5:25 mark, and moved it to 24-20 on another free throw by Green and one by Kenny Wilcox. From that point, Dallas Baptist went on a 20-3 run that started with 3:23 remaining in the first half and continued until the 16:31 mark of the second stanza, giving them a commanding 40-27 lead.

Two free throws by Nick Michels put the Patriots up by 15, 46-31. The Muleriders made a comeback and over a period of 4:32 managed to cut the lead to five, 63-58, after a jumper by Reggie Tims. However the damage had been done and Dallas Baptist coasted to victory.

Manny Montano and Nick Michels shared team-high honors for the Patriots with 14 points each. Montano was five of eight from the field and had eight rebounds. Michels was three of nine from the field, but eight of nine in free throws, and added four rebounds. Eddie Gloviak added 11 points and four rebounds, with Brandon Wash contributing 10 points and four rebounds.

Cory Green led the Muleriders with 16 points, four of 10 in shooting and seven of 12 at the charity stripe. Green also dished out four assists, pulled down three boards, and picked off two steals. Leon Stone had 13 points and eight rebounds.

DBU shot 47.9 percent (23-48) from the field, a cold 16.7 percent (1-4) in treys, and 75 percent (18-24) at the free throw line.

A rough shooting night for SAU, the Muleriders made 18 of 51 shots for 35.3 percent, three for 15 beyond the arc for 20 percent, and 19 of 34 in freebies for 55.9 percent.

Southern Arkansas steps up in play on Sunday when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., to take on Division I Tulsa. The Muleriders gave the Golden Hurricane a scare last year, losing by only a 56-51 margin.
