[June 6, 2006] Magnolia, Ark. - Khalil Carter, a senior defensive back at Southern Arkansas University in 1998, will play in the Arena Football League’s Arena Bowl XX Sunday, June 11 for the Orlando Predators. A wide receiver/defensive specialist for Orlando, the 6-1, 191-pound Carter had two interceptions in the National Conference championship game last Sunday, returning one for a 33-yard touchdown in a 45-28 win over the Dallas Desperados. The Sunday title game will be televised nationally on NBC, beginning at 2 p.m. CST. A defensive back at the University of Arkansas from 1994 through 1997, Carter transferred to Southern Arkansas as a senior. He had six tackles, and three punt returns for 32 yards, in five games for the Muleriders in 1998. Carter played high school football at Little Rock Central. This season, Carter played the first seven weeks for the Nashville Kats, before being traded to Orlando. After totaling 34.5 tackles for Nashville, he led the Predator defense in the regular season with 79 tackles - 72 solo, and two interceptions for 21 yards. Carter also had three receptions for 21 Carter was a 2005 Second Team All-Arena selection for the Kats. He finished second among Kats defenders in tackles with 70, and led the team in interceptions (7) and pass breakups (15). Carter was named the Defensive Player of the Year in ArenaFootball2 after setting a league record with 14 interceptions with the Arkansas Twisters in 2003. He played the 2004 season with the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe, making 28 tackles. Carter also camped with the Buffalo Bills in 2004. In 2002, Carter played in nine games for the Toronto Phantoms, and had an outstanding rookie season in 2001 with the Milwaukee Mustangs. Orlando advanced to their game against Dallas by defeating the Philadelphia Soul, 31-27, May 28 that was televised by NBC. Sunday’s Arena Bowl opponent will be the Chicago Rush, and the championship game will be played in Las Vegas, Nev. Orlando carries a 12-6 record into the title game. #SAU# |
