Magnolia, Ark. - Adrian Romanos, Lindsay Musielak, and Gabriela “Gaby”
Mendoza of Southern Arkansas University have been selected to the 2006 ESPN The
Magazine First Team Academic All-District VI men’s and women’s track & field/cross
country teams.
Romanos, a senior from Laredo, Texas, has a cumulative 3.32 GPA in behavioral
science-psychology. He is a three-time selection to the U.S. Cross Country Coaches
Association and Gulf South Conference All-Academic Teams, GSC Academic Honor
Roll, and First Team All-GSC in cross country, having been named to all three again this
year. Romanos has also been a Second Team All-South Region member the past two
seasons, is a two-time member of the SAU Dean’s List, and was named the male Auburn
Smith Award winner at Southern Arkansas’ annual all-sports banquet in May.
Musielak, a junior from McKinney, Texas, has an impressive 3.90 GPA in
business administration-marketing. She is a repeat member of the academic all-district
team, having been chosen last season also. Musielak is a two-time selection to the U.S.
Cross Country Coaches Association and GSC All-Academic Teams, and has been named
three times to the GSC Academic Honor Roll, earning all three honors again this year.
She is a four-time member of the SAU President’s List, a member of the SAU Dean’s
List, was a Second Team All-GSC selection in cross country this past fall, and was
named the SAU female Outstanding Scholar-Athlete for 2005-06.
Mendoza is a junior from Royse City, Texas, who has a 3.64 GPA in a doublemajor
of Spanish education and Spanish. She also has twice been named to the U.S.
Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team, and was a GSC All-Academic
Team selection this year. Mendoza has twice been named to the GSC Academic Honor
Roll, and is a four-time member of the SAU Dean’s List. She was a Second Team
selection on both the All-South Region and All-GSC teams this year, and was a First
Team All-GSC member in 2003, the first female to achieve all-conference honors in
cross country. Mendoza missed the 2004 season due to an injury.
By virtue of being named first team all-district, all three student-athletes will now
advance for consideration on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team.
